The Colleton Prep varsity War Hawk football team performed well on the road last week in preseason scrimmages. Against Pinewood Prep on Monday Aug. 6, Colleton Prep scored four touchdowns in the scrimmage, outscoring the Panthers by 12 points.
“We played extremely well on both sides of the ball,” said Coach Rob Gorrell. “We gave up two big plays and gave the ball up on the 3-yard line on a botched punt in that scrimmage.”
The War Hawks lost 28-21 in a full game scrimmage held Thursday Aug. 9 against Philip Simmons. “We gave up one big run and one big pass against the Iron Horses,” said Gorrell.
“Both Drew Murdaugh and Jordan Crosby played well at quarterback and both led scoring drives in Thursday’s game,” said Gorrell. “Connor McMillan, Hunter Hudson and Gabe Barnes ran well in both scrimmages.
“Overall, there is plenty to take away from these scrimmages,” said Gorrell. “We have a lot to teach from and some stuff to clean up, but a lot more positives than negatives. I am very proud of how our group has represented CPA so far. I knew they are ready for the real thing and can’t wait to get to work for Branchville.”
The War Hawks will face non-region opponent Branchville High School in week zero action Friday evening at home with kickoff planned for 7:30 p.m.
