Members of the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate a Sept. 16 shooting that sent a 49-year-old Ravenel man to the hospital with critical injuries.
The man reportedly identified his girlfriend as the shooter, and deputies located her at a nearby relative’s home. She was transported to Colleton Medical Center for observation. No charges have been filed as yet.
On Sept. 16, shortly before 9 p.m., a clerk at the Orange Convenience store at 1531 Hampton St. called emergency dispatch reporting that a man ran into the business seeking help.
The first member of Colleton County Fire-Rescue arriving at the business found the man near the front door of the store, bleeding profusely from the right upper arm.
A large amount of blood was in the parking lot, but the patient had run to that location from the actual scene.
The man’s wounds were quickly bandaged, but he continued to bleed heavily until a tourniquet was applied.
After an ambulance arrived, the shooting victim’s condition began to deteriorate. He was given emergency treatment and transported to the medical helicopter stationed at the helipad at Colleton Medical Center with additional firefighter-paramedics onboard the ambulance to assist with patient care.
He was then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
