The Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society will be hosting a Holiday Tour of Homes on Sunday Dec. 4 from 1-4 p.m. A reception at the Bedon-Lucas House will follow from 4-5 p.m.
Ten local historical homes will show off their holiday spirit. These homes are located in the historic districts of Walterboro. Visitors can either walk to each house or if they choose to drive, parking is available near each house. There will be a wide variety of architectural styles and historical stories at each home. Construction of these homes ranges from the 1820s to the 1950s. Many of the houses were built between 1880 and 1920 after the Cyclone of 1879 destroyed much of the town.
The tour will begin at the Little Library at 803 Wichman Street where visitors will pick up maps and tour wristbands. The homes can be viewed in any order and visitors are encouraged to vary their routes to avoid crowding. The tour will end at Bedon-Lucas House, decked out in period decorations by Sparkles, Event Décor and Design. Light refreshments will be served and visitors can tour the home until 5 p.m. The City of Walterboro tree lighting and parade will follow the Holiday Tour of Homes.
Jeff Grigg, president of CCHAPS says “There has not been a tour of homes in Walterboro for several years and we are looking forward to showing off the town’s history and hospitality.”
Tickets are $35 per person ($30 for CCHAPS members) and can be purchased online at www.cchaps.com, by calling the CCHAPS office at 843 549-9633, by visiting Carolina Closet, or at the door the day of the events. Tickets are limited so advanced ticket purchase is encouraged.
CCHAPS, the City of Walterboro, and Mayfield Garden Club will also be hosting a Hanging of the Greens at Little Library Park on Sunday Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. The Hanging of the Greens is a free, family-friendly event followed by a reception at the Bedon-Lucas House.
