The Walterboro Civitan Club elected officers and honored members during its 60th anniversary banquet held last week.
Jeff Slocum was re-elected president; Maryann Seals, vice-president; Donald Davis, secretary; and Paul Walker, treasurer. Arnold Zipperer was chosen as board member at-large. Officers were installed by S.C. Civitans Governor Doug McKenzie.
Bubba Trippe was chosen Citizen of the Year for his work in the community and his success with the Rice Festival.
Donald Davis was named Civitan of the Year for his work in the club, which has gained 17 new members in recent years, six in the past year.
Michael Padgett was honored for his service as chairman for the club’s project of the year at the Rice Festival.
Walterboro Mayor Bill Young read a proclamation recognizing the Civitans’ 60 years of service to Walterboro and Colleton County.
The program honored past presidents of the club, including comments by Dr. Johnny Hiott (president in 1956) and Jack McLean (1985). Members also remembered the first president in 1956, the late T. Les McElwee, and the last charter member, the late Murray Bishop, who died earlier this year.
