War Hawk Golf finishes ninth in state tourney | Sports | The Press and Standard

The Colleton Prep War Hawk Golf team took care of business, beating Dorchester Academy by one, to earn a spot in the 2016 SCISA Class A State Golf Tournament held on General Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University. CPA began play Monday April 25 in the two-day state tournament where they earned a ninth-place finish out of 11 teams competing in Class A.
At the end of Monday, the War Hawks were ninth in the standings: John Paul II (336), Charleston Collegiate (365), Newberry (377), Patrick Henry (377), Northside (386), Mead Hall (405), Dorchester (406), Lowcountry Prep (409), Colleton Prep (416), Cambridge (447) and Wardlaw (449). The Hawks remained in the No. 9 spot at the completion of the tournament, shooting 412 on Tuesday, for an overall score of 828.
Josh Crosby was on the leaderboard for Colleton Prep with scores of 97 and 94. Rounding out the team: Jake Burttram (102-99), Jesse Murdaugh (109-108), Connor McMillan (108-111) and Hayden Murdaugh (115-114.)
“I am proud of our guys,” said Coach Rob Gorrell, who is finishing his first year as the head football and golf coach. “They really wanted to qualify for state and they made it happen. It was a great learning experience.”
The War Hawks had a busy couple of weeks prior to their trip to the state tournament. On Tuesday April 5, they competed against Holly Hill (away). Josh Crosby had the low score for the War Hawks, shooting a 45. CPA lost the match, shooting 207 to Holly Hill’s 195.
At home on Dogwood Hills Golf Course Thursday April 7, the Hawks hosted the Thomas Heyward Rebels. Shooting their lowest score of the season so far, Colleton earned the win, 179-200. Jake Burttram shot a 42 on the day to capture the leaderboard, with Josh Crosby shooting a 44.
Against Orangeburg Prep, the Hawks lost 173-190 on their home course. Josh Crosby and Jake Burttram both shot 44 on the day. Other War Hawk scoring included Hayden Murdaugh (50), Connor McMillan (52), Jesse Murdaugh (53) and Jude Blubaugh (54).
In the match against Dorchester Academy that determined their state fate, the Hawks were able to push the table in their favor, 192-193. Josh Crosby held the leaderboard spot shooting 45 on the afternoon. Other counting War Hawk scores included: Burttram (47), Murdaugh (49) and McMillan (51).
