The War Hawk B-team finished its season with a little free baseball, when late rallies forced an extra inning in both games this past week.
Against St. Francis Catholic School Wednesday April 27, Colleton Prep put together a four-run rally to force the extra inning. However, the Hawks could not plate a run and lost 8-7. Jake Tyler, John Tomedolskey, Riley Smoak, Drew Murdaugh and West Brown all provided big hits for CPA.
Gabe Barnes made his first start for the Colleton Prep B-team on the hill “He pitched a very nice game against St. Francis,” said Coach Mark Tomedolskey.
Colleton Prep hosted Clarendon Hall the following evening, where after an extra inning, the game ended tied at six runs each. Tomedolskey provided multiple hits for the War Hawks with Tyler and Barnes chipping in.
Carter Smoak and Jordan Simmons combined for the no-decision.
“I was proud of our pitching in this game,” said Tomedolskey. “They both worked the mound admirably.”
“I’m very proud of the hard work put forth by this team throughout the season,” said Tomedolskey. “We treat B-team baseball a lot like spring training for the major-leagues. Winning and losing falls more than a few rungs below player development and participation. As an example, this team saw 11 players gain experience on the mound and five players set up behind home plate this season. Each player on this team accounted for more than a little stake in the final record, which is something our team and baseball family can be proud of.”
The Colleton Prep B-team finished their 2016 season 8-4-2 with a second-place finish in the CCMS pre-season tournament.
