During the weekend of March 14-16, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia, a total of 239 new members from the Southeastern Province were initiated into Kappa Alpha Kappa Psi® Fraternity, Inc. The Walterboro Alumni Chapter proudly welcomes four of these new members.
According to the organization’s website, Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. is a collegiate Greek-letter fraternity, founded on January 5, 1911 at Indiana University Bloomington. The fraternity has over 150,000 members with 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters in every state of the United States, and international chapters.
The new members in the Walterboro Alumni Chapter are as follows:
John Armstrong
• Orangeburg native, residing in Tampa, Florida
• Received a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Leo University and currently working toward a Doctor of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling
• Community Involvement-JV Basketball Coach and President of the JROTC Booster Club
• Associate Pastor of New Progress Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida
• Retired Disabled Veteran
• Married to Holly Armstrong
DeAndre Bryant
• Resides in Islandton, South Carolina
• Graduate of Claflin University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration
• Campus Involvement-Dean’s List and The National Society of Leadership and Success
• Employed with Lowcountry Community Action Agency as an Accounting Clerk and Human Resources Manager
• Also employed with Walmart as an Online Shopper
• Community Involvement-YMCA and Lowcountry Food Bank Volunteer, VITA Lowcountry Income Tax, Lowcountry Headstart Father / Daughter Dance, and Deep Creek Baptist Church Festival

“As the chairman of the Walterboro Alumni Chapter’s Membership Training Academy, it was a pleasure to work with the new members of our fraternity, as they matriculated through their training program to be afforded the opportunity to gain knowledge and a rich history of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc.,” stated Anderson Grant. The chapter’s Polemarch is Arthur Williams.
Through its worldwide prominence, Kappa Alpha Psi® has had a global impact on events that affect our local communities and places around the globe. Local chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi® participate in community outreach activities to feed the homeless, provide scholarships to young people matriculating to college, serve as mentors to young men, participate in blood drives, and serve as hosts of seminars for public health awareness, to name a few. Nationally, Kappa Alpha Psi® has provided summer enrichment camps and funds for St. Jude Medical Research Center to assist in the fight against childhood catastrophic diseases by raising more than $1 million. Internationally, Kappa Alpha Psi® members have answered the call to service by proudly serving our military in wars since WWI and raising funds to assist those in need following natural disasters worldwide, including hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, and earthquakes, according to the fraternity’s history.
