Three Injured in Pleasant Grove Rd Collision

A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Jefferies Hwy and Pleasant Grove Rd resulted in three people being injured, two critically The accident occurred Thursday morning May 2nd during heavy fog. Visibility was limited to less than a few hundred feet when a southbound utility truck was struck by a west bound pickup truck. The utility truck then struck an embankment and came to rest in the Pleasant Grove Church cemetery. The pickup truck overturned on the highway. Both occupants of the utility truck suffered multiple traumatic injuries and were trapped in the vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck was able to crawl out of the overturned vehicle and received non-life-threatening injuries. Three Colleton County Fire-Rescue ambulances were dispatched to the incident. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the injured, while other crew members used rescue tools to extricate the victims. No medical helicopters could fly due to the heavy fog and once freed from the wreckage, both men in the utility truck were transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
