The Colleton Soil & Water Conservation District contest “May The Forest Be With You Always”

The Colleton Soil & Water Conservation District is sponsored their 2023-2024 Annual Poster and Essay Contest for students in public, private, and home schools in Colleton County.

The topic for this year’s contest was “May The Forest Be With You Always” was for students in Special Education and Grades K-5. Trees and forests are critical in providing clean air and water, healthy soil, abundant wildlife habitat and valuable resources we use every day. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about forest and trees and ways they can help conserve this valuable renewable natural resources.

The Poster contest was a class project with winners at each grade level receiving a cash award for their class. The Essay Contest was for students in grades 6-8. The Essay contest is an individual project with winners at each grade level receiving First Place, Second Place, and Third Place Awards.

The presentation of the district awards took place May 2 at the Elks Lodge in Walterboro. The Colleton Conservation District was proud to recognize the winners in the poster and essay contest. This year’s entries came from North Walterboro Christian Academy.

The poster contest was a class project and the first place winners received a $50.00 cash award for their class and a certificate.

From North Walterboro Christian Academy in the Poster Contest:

Kindergarten: Ms. Howell

1st grade: Mrs. Hardwicks

3rd grade: Mrs. Candy Martin

4th grade: Mrs. Diane Smoak

The essay contest was an individual project for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Winners from each grade level received $100.00 for first place, $50.00 for second place and $25.00 for third place. All winners also received a certificate of recognition.
