Read In Celebration Today

Posted

Two weeks ago, Colleton County Memorial Library System received the immense honor of being chosen to receive brand new donations of books from The Today Show in honor of Read with Jenna’s fifth anniversary. Read with Jenna was founded by Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, in March of 2019. Hager started the monthly book club on The Today Show because she wanted to encourage people to fall in love with reading. What started as a fun and well-meaning idea, quickly grew into a national sensation. Read with Jenna blossomed across America, igniting a passion for readers everywhere. Hager incorporated the work of bestselling authors including Kristin Hannah, Donna Tartt, Amor Towles, Toni Morrison, Taylor Jenkins Reid, and so many more!

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of this amazing success and National Reading Month, Jenna partnered with the featured authors whose works she exhibited in the book club to select ONE library from all fifty states to receive donations of books that were not only new, but also every book used for the book club. The Colleton County Memorial Library received notice from Jenna herself that our library system had been selected for the state of South Carolina and our staff were incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity! The materials that were so graciously donated to us will used for library programs and future projects and utilized in a way to further Jenna’s initiative to ignite a love of reading within our community.
