Earlier this year, The South Carolina Alliance hosted Mr. Bahadir “Baha” Yetki, CEO, USA Kontrolmatik Technologies and Pomega Energy Storage Technologies on their podcast “Talk of the Town” hosted by Robyn Zimmerman. Mr. Yetki provided an update on the progress of the lithium-ion battery facility located in the Colleton Industrial Campus off Exit 62 on I-95.
Mr. Yetki relays during the interview they are still working on the process design as there have been a few changes regarding capacity which has been increased. Due to the increase revision had to be made. Once the revisions have been made and approved the construction design will also be finalized. The water mitigation works has been done and now the construction site will be prepared for the horizontal construction. Yetki also confirms previous figures that the site will be a 650,00 facility and will employ approximately 575 once at full operations.
When asked why the company chose South Carolina, Yetki cited a major factor was the power they had readily available to run the facility which is of tremendous importance, but a rare find. Yetki also comments on the warm welcome he and the company received from the state. He remarks that coming from a Mediterranean culture the relationships are always warm, and he has found that same warmth in South Carolina.
