Josh Westbury has joined the team at Colleton Realty. Josh was born and raised in Colleton County. After 19 years in engineering at Palmetto Rural Telephone, Josh decided to make the move to real estate full time.

Westbury says, “I’ve been thinking about selling real estate for about three years. I just never could get up the gumption to take the test because it takes a good bit of time off to take the test and complete courses. I got it done in December, and I hit the ground running in January. I am new to the business. I’m just trying to get my feet wet.“

“I’m going to try and lean more toward vacant and recreational lands. I grew up hunting and fishing and because I’m an outdoorsman, I like to be able to show these types of properties, engage with people, and to be outside. If I can get somebody a piece of property and they fall in love with it, that’s a bonus. I talk to the clients, see what they are interested in and what they want to do with the property, and I go from there. You figure out the price point. There’s not a lot of inventory out there right now. Inventory is low. So, prices are kind of high. And that’s just the way it goes in the markets.”

Westbury notes, land in the area is in demand. People are moving from the north to get away from the cold and the ones from down south are moving to the area to get away from high prices. People are also moving to the area to get away from the traffic in Charleston and Summerville.

In his spare time, he likes to be outdoors. “I like to fish and hunt for duck or deer.” During the summertime, he likes to boat in the canal up in St. Stephen’s as well as the Savannah River. “It’s the greatest place you could ever grow up if you like outdoors. Moderate climate, close access to beaches, rivers, plenty of recreational land, and public land opportunities.”

When asked what he would like to do if time and money were no object he says, “I want to travel. I want to fly to Paris France, go to the Burgundy country and all those provinces, tour all around Italy and come back through Spain. I would take about a month and a half to do the trip. That’s what I want to do.”

Rilee Westbury, Josh’s wife, started Colleton Realty five years ago after being in the business for years.

They have 11 agents and are located at 259 East Washington Street. Westbury says, “We do honest hard work and make sure we get our get our clients their money’s worth.”
