Community Resource Day held at Colleton Memorial Library

Despite the chill and the wind community organizations came out to make Colleton County citizens aware of resources available to them.  From mental health to assistance obtaining food, there are agencies that can help.  The following agencies came out to participate in the event.

Edgewood Baptist Church Food Pantry

Edgewood Baptist Church provides a food pantry for those in need of food.  The pantry partners with Lowcountry Food Bank.  90% of the food that comes to them is USDA grade.  Other organizations donate to the pantry as well.

 

Clemson Extension Rural Health & Nutrition

Providing chronic disease prevention and self-management programs as well as policy, systems, and environmental approaches:  for example, diabetes.

 

Lowcountry Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging

Provides assistance and services to eligible seniors.  They receive grant money for those 60 or over.  They provide help with Medicaid and Medicare and assist with lowering costs of prescriptions.

 

A Father’s Place

Dedicated to supporting and empowering fathers to actively engage in their children’s  lives through educational programs, resources, and community outreach.  Strengthening families through father engagement.

  

Pillars4Hope (f/k/a Colleton County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse)

Working to reduce the negative impacts of substance use disorders.  Addiction treatment, recovery services, and provide preventive services to lessen future risk of addiction.

 

South Carolina Guardian Ad Litem Program

Working in conjunction with the Department of Children’s Advocacy.  A Guardian Ad Litem is a court appointed advocate for children in situations of abuse and neglect.  Volunteers are needed.

 

Agape Care South Carolina

Agape Care works with patients who have been given 6 months life expectancy.  Studies show patients can live up to 26 days longer due to consistent love and care.  Volunteers are needed.

 

In His Name-Colleton

In His Name-Colleton exists to support our community by offering physical and spiritual support through providing food, clothing, hygiene, supportive programs and resources, and pastoral services for families and individuals residing in Colleton County.

 

Coastal Empire Community Mental Health Center Department of Mental Health

Offers a comprehensive array of services with priorities given to adults, children, and their families affected by serious mental illnesses and significant emotional disorders to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses.  They offer help with disorders to trauma.

 

Walterboro Family Care:  A Division of Genesis Health Care, Inc.

Genesis offers a wide range of services at their facilities.  The goal is to provide comprehensive, and high-quality care to all patients.  Services offered are from general primary medical care to case management.

 

Epworth Foster Care Program

Trying to bridge the gap between children in need of foster care and available foster parents.  There are currently more than 4,000 children in South Carolina are in the foster care system.  Epworth is a faith based non-profit organization actively recruiting foster parents to help fill this need.

 Hopeful Horizons

A children’s advocacy, domestic violence, and rape crisis center.  The goal is to create safer communities by changing the culture of violence and offering a path to healing through services and through prevention and outreach.

 

The American Red Cross

The goal is to prevent and relieve suffering with every action such as providing food, shelter, and comfort.

 

East Coast Migrant Head Start Program

Committed to preparing the children of migrant and seasonal farmworkers for success. We do this by providing holistic, high quality early childhood education services for children and families in a nurturing, culturally sensitive environment and by providing services and advocating for children and families in their other areas of need.

 

 Colleton Animal Shelter

The shelter houses domestic animals who are temporarily homeless for a variety of reasons. While the shelter is an open-admission shelter funded and controlled by Colleton County, the staff and it’s non-profit partner Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter strive to save as many healthy animals as possible. This is only possible with the support of the citizens of Colleton County as we continue to send the message of the importance of spay/neuter, responsible care and control of pets.
