The annual Edisto Belles Beach Walk for breast cancer will be held Saturday Aug. 31 on Palmetto Boulevard. All proceeds benefit the Edisto Belles Breast Health and Support Advocacy for Edisto area residents.
The walk will begin at 9 a.m. at 603 Palmetto Blvd. with pre-registered walkers receiving numbers and registration for those not pre-registered. The goal is to “all leave out in unison this year to make a bigger pink impact and walk the beach together,” said Sue Wooten, walk coordinator. “You may walk the entire course or whatever distance you choose.” The walk will be from the 600 block to the 2400 block and back.
After the walk, participants may attend the Edisto Beach Shag Festival.
Registration is $20/walker. Applications are available at Carolina One Sea Island Group, Waterfront Restaurant, Sea Spirits, With These Hands, McConkey’s Jungle Shack and the Edisto Chamber of Commerce.
Completed registration forms may be submitted to Sue Wooten, Carolina One Sea Island Group, or mailed to Edisto Belles, P.O. Box 702, Edisto Island, S.C. 29438.
For information or to have an entry form emailed/mailed, contact Sue Wooten, 843-869-3163, 843-603-0073 or baileyisland@bellsouth.net; or Mott Parker, 803-331-1962, edistomott@gmailcom.
“Whether you’ve walked with us before or this would be your first — or even if you aren’t able or just don’t care to walk — please come and fellowship with us,” Wooten said. “We have lots of fun celebrating life. We focus on breast health awareness, not breast cancer. Our mission as survivors/advocates is to offer support and heighten awareness as we navigate through the process which a breast cancer diagnosis presents. We hope and pray our efforts will assist in effecting a cure.
“Our name related to the ‘ringing of the bell’ at the end of treatment. Therefore, our motto is ‘Til the Bell Is No Longer Needed,’” she said.
