Lady Hawks eliminated from post-season play in 5-4 loss

The Colleton Prep Lady Hawks were eliminated from the SCISA AA State Softball Tournament following a 5-4 loss to Williamsburg Academy Saturday May 11 in Sumter.
Colleton Prep finished 1-2 in the double-elimination state tournament, earning a 9-0 shutout over Carolina Academy in game one and a 4-2 loss to Pee Dee Academy in game two. They finished the 2019 season 14-8 overall and as runner-up in Region II-A.
In game one against Carolina Academy, Meredith Ware and Anne Garrett Carter combined for the shutout.
Carter earned the start, lasting three and a third innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits. Ware closed the game allowing two hits and striking out four.
The Lady Hawks scored six runs in the seventh inning and stole eight bases to put the game out of reach.
Weslin Jones and Anne Garrett Carter were both 2-4 at the plate. Langley Harter, Ware, Haley Bootle, Elizabeth Anne Dean and Taylor Tomedolskey all recorded hits.
Against Pee Dee Academy, Ware started in the circle and lasted four- and two-third innings, scattering seven hits and four runs.
Ware struck out one and issued one walk. Carter provided one- and one-third inning of relief, allowing one hit while striking out one and issuing a walk.
Weslin Jones went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Hawks. Harter, Bootle and Dean had multiple hits.
In the elimination game, Colleton Prep was tied with Williamsburg at four after seven complete innings.
In the top of the eighth, Williamsburg plated a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Hawks threatened in the bottom of the inning with the bases loaded but were caught stealing at home for out three.
Carter started in the circle and lasted seven innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, striking out three. Ware closed, allowing one run on two hits. Taylor Tomedolskey went 2-4 with an RBI and Harter went 2-3 on the night.
