Lady Cougars capture District VII Championship

The Colleton County Lady Cougar Softball team defeated Wilson High School 4-2 Wednesday May 1 to claim the District VII Championship.
Ace Whitley Weathers went the distance against Wilson, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and striking out nine. Weathers issued no walks in the contest.
Colleton County’s offense provided 10 hits in the game and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Karson Hiott was perfect at the plate for Colleton County, going 3-3 with 3 RBI’s. Ashley Savage was 2-3 and scored twice and Dakari Gant was 2-3.
The Lady Cougars began competition in the four team Lower-State bracket Saturday May 4. They will need to battle through four teams for the Lower-State title: North Augusta High School (24-2), Hartsville (24-0) and Darlington (16-6).
Colleton County took a 2-1 loss against Darlington Monday May 6 in game one of the Lower-State bracket. It was the first post-season loss for the Lady Cougars.
Monday’s game was scheduled to be played Saturday May 4, but was postponed at the top of the third inning due to inclement weather.
Both runs by Darlington were scored in the top of the first inning Saturday. Whitley Weathers handled the pitching duties in all seven innings, striking out four and holding the Falcons scoreless in Monday’s game.
The Lady Cougars threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Ashley Savage reached on single, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, but was be left stranded.
Colleton County was scheduled to face North Augusta (home) Tuesday May 7 at 6 p.m. in a must-win situation.
The Yellow Jackets moved into the losers’ bracket after a 4-3 loss to Hartsville High School Saturday.
