Hurricane Strike: The planning begins

Colleton County Engineer Carla Harvey and Colleton County Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Joey Campbell (back to camera) discuss some of the myriad of details that need to be taken case of an emergency during a Table Top Exercise conducted the morning of May 3 at the county’s Emergency Operations Center. Campbell serves as one of the planning section chiefs and Harvey covers an operational period and oversees public works/engineering ands a liaison with DOT. She also works with debris management and is the liaison with several private contractors, among other things.

The four-hour drill involved response and recovery efforts for Hurricane Strike, a simulated disaster. Thirty-seven people from 25 agencies attended the exercise, which concentrated on testing the community’s ability to respond to a large-scale disaster and recovery following the storm. The regional emergency manager for the S.C. State Emergency Management Division Rocky Tucker assisted with the drill.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy said his department “is appreciative of our ESF partners who are instrumental in ensuring the safety of Colleton County citizens.”
