Members of Colleton County Fire-Rescue move a Varnville man from his heavily damaged car to a waiting medical emergency helicopter following a single-car accident Aug. 31 at 9:43 a.m. on Moselle Road.

The man was driving west in the 5600 block of Moselle Road when he went off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was trapped in the wreckage with firefighter-paramedics using hydraulic tools to free him.

He was placed in an ambulance and driven to a nearby field where a C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter was waiting to fly him to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
