A woman traveling to Florida to attend a funeral was killed in a one-vehicle crash on I-95 the morning of July 29.
Colleton County Chief Deputy Coroner Richard Carter pronounced Indroutie Rampertab, 70, of South Ozone Park, N.Y. dead at the scene. She was pronounced dead at the scene and Carter has listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
According to the report issued by Lance Corporal Matt Southern of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 11:43 a.m. near 42-mile marker.
The driver of a 2018 Range Rover was driving south on I-95 when he pulled onto the exit ramp.
The vehicle traveled across Lowcountry Highway, entered the entrance ramp for southbound I-95 traffic, went off the roadway, down an embankment and struck several trees.
Callers reporting the crash to the dispatch center said the occupants were trapped inside the vehicle, which had come to rest on its side.
The deceased woman was sitting in the rear seat of the vehicle. She sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was partially ejected in the crash.
Her husband, the 63-year-old male driver, sustained critical injuries and her 33-year-old daughter, the front seat passenger, sustained non life-threatening injuries.
The injured woman told safety forces that their vehicle began experiencing problems with the brakes. She advised her father attempted to exit the Interstate but he was unable to stop the vehicle.
Bad weather had grounded medical emergency helicopters. Both injured occupants were transported to the Medical University of South Carolina facilities in Charleston by ambulance.
