Capt. Gary Nahrstedt of Colleton Fire-Rescue spoke at the July meeting of the PEP (People Enjoying People) Club. He offered information on what to do if you wake up and your house is on fire, how to deal with kitchen grease fires, how to use a fire extinguisher and other tips. He also said those who don’t have smoke detectors may obtain them free from Fire-Rescue, which will even install the detectors for those unable to do so.
The PEP Club is for anyone over 50 and meets on the last Tuesday of each month at noon at the Rec Center. The first visit is free, and annual dues are $5. The meeting includes lunch, a program, door prizes and bingo.
