Jane Darby has picked up some part-time work.
Darby, whose main task is presiding as the mayor of Edisto Beach, is taking over the leadership role of a statewide organization.
On July 20, the 125 members of the Association of South Carolina Mayors elected Darby president of the organization.
The Association of South Carolina Mayors was established in 2011 under the umbrella of Municipal Association of South Carolina to provide opportunities for South Carolina mayors to more fully engage in advocating for issues that affect cities and towns, to network, to share ideas and best practices with other mayor and to take part in educational activities.
Darby succeeds Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall. Williston Mayor Jason Stapleton was elected vice-president of the association.

I think this is excellent news. Jane is the most awesome lady. She is so qualified to lead this endeavor. I love the fact that she represents everyone on Edisto not just a political party. I do not care what party she is with I just respect her very much. Edisto is fortunate to have her. Finally there is real leadership on Edisto. She will do a good job as a leader working with other mayor’s that’s for sure. I for one can’t keep up with her energy level. So many mayors are political party first and pander to a party fo favors, and are quick to jump on bandwagon to endorse State or US Candidates. Not Jane. I hope she can instill in other Mayor’s that it is the people who elect them they owe their allegiance to and should only be interested in working towards making the town they represent better. If all they are about is political gain or a future run for another office then they do not need to be mayors. Mayor’s are unique and need to stay that way.
