The Carolina Slammers 12U travel baseball team went 3-1 and earned the championship title in the DeMarini End of Summer Championship held at the ACE Basin Sports Complex on Aug. 25-26.
The Slammer earned wins over the Lowcountry Crush (15-0), Palmetto Punishers (13-3) and the Tide (13-8).
Their lone loss came against the Tides in pool play Saturday (8-6).
“We opened up the tournament by beating the Lowcountry Crush in three innings and then lost to the Tides in pool play,” said Coach Bill Kinard.
“Seeded in the No. 2 spot on Sunday, we defeated the Palmetto Punishers in four innings of play to advance to a championship game. In a rematch against the Tides for the championship, we were able to earn the win and revenge our loss to them on Saturday,” he said.
The weekend roster for the 12U Slammers included Tanner Caldwell, Bryce Kinard, Hammy Mays, Collin Hiers, James Garvin, Grayson Martin, Braeden Hiers, Davion Varner, Landon Carpenter, Jamari Manigo, Alejandro Marin and Owen Harrelson. The team is coached by Bill Kinard, Jack Drawdy, Herbert “Half-Pint” Hiers and Ricky Caldwell.
