Bike racing returns this weekend

The 2018 CCA Regional Criterium Championships will be held in Walterboro on Saturday and Sunday Aug. 11-12.
Races begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with Juniors ages 15-18 and 9-14, followed by the Women’s Cat 3/4/5 at 10 a.m. and Men’s Cat 5 at 10:30. The Men’s Cat 1-4 Masters 35+ starts at 11:10, Men’s Cat 1-4 Masters 45/55/65+ at noon, Men’s Cat 4 at 1 p.m. and Men’s Pro at 1:45 p.m. Women’s Pro 1/2 and Women’s Masters 35/45/55/65+ begins at 2:35 p.m. and Men’s Masters 35+ Cat 5 at 3:20 p.m.
The Kids’ Fun Race will start at 3:50 p.m.
Saturday’s final race will be a Shootout race at 4 p.m. which awards 10 places at $1,500 and five places at $500 with a $500 team prize. Top finishers from races will be automatically entered in the shootout at no additional fee. Racers must be 15 or older and Cat 4 or better to qualify.
Registration is online at pre-reg.com and closes Friday Aug. 10. Same-day second race is $15 for a lesser value race. All races will be held rain or shine with no refunds. For information visit lowcountryracing.com or email email@example.com.
The CCA Regional Time Trial Championships will be Sunday Aug. 12 starting at PRTC, 2471 Jefferies Hwy. Racers will travel up Highway 15 to Grover and back to PRTC. Ages 19+ start at 8:30 a.m. followed by 35+, 45+, 55+, 65+, Cat 1/2, Cat 3, Cat 4, Cat 5, Tandem and Hand Cyclist leaving at one-minute intervals.
Juniors boys and girls will begin at 10:30 a.m. with ages 10-12 followed by 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 at one-minute intervals. Races are open to all riders with current 2018 racing licenses but regional championship medals will be awarded only to non-professional N.C./S.C. residents. Cash prizes will be awarded based on number of entries.
