The county’s Recreation Center is encircled with orange temporary fencing as workers take on a variety of projects being paid for by an allocation of approximately $3.2 million in Capital Projects Sales Tax revenue.
The work, being done by IP Builders, will nearly double the size of the facility.
The existing building, constructed in 1960, measures 18,500 square feet. Part of the work undertaken constructs a 17,500-square-foot addition to the new complex.
The additional space will house new basketball courts and be the new home of the relocated fitness center.
Entering the front door of the existing recreation center — the only portion of the facility not secured by the orange fencing — the new addition is located to the right.
To the left of the front door is the location of a new splash pad that is being installed as part of the project.
Work is also under way on the plans to renovate the existing building.
The construction is expected to be finished in December.
