The 9U Carolina Slammers, a newly formed boys’ travel baseball team, participated in the USSSA Boys of Summer Classic held Sunday at Gahagan Park in Summerville. In a best of three series against the Palmetto Blueclaws, the Slammers went 1-2 in their first outing of the summer season.
Coach Todd Litchfield called the day a success and a good start for the young team. “They have worked hard over the last four weeks to improve,” said Litchfield. “It was a good start for them. They had a lot of field time and gained some experience against a solid team. We still have a lot to work on, but overall, I was extremely pleased with their efforts. I would like to thank the families for their support this weekend.”
Litchfield cited the offensive efforts of Danziel Chapman and Mason Owens and defensive efforts of Cole Snelgrove, Galil Frazier, Michael Witkin, Michael Johnson and Calvin Brown. Handling the pitching duties for the Carolina Slammers on Sunday were Witkin, Tripp Norris and Charlie Walker.
The Carolina Slammers roster includes Caleb Barsha, Brown, Chapman, Gerardo De La Cruz-Lopez, Frazier, Johnson, Dalton Litchfield, Owens, Nicholas Martin, Snelgrove, Walker, Witkin and Norris. They will be back in action the next two weekends.
