Lawton Huggins has been elected president of the Walterboro Rotary Club. Other officers elected are President-elect John Dalton, Secretary George “Bucky” McCormick, and Treasurer Jeff Molinari. All will serve terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2019.
Huggins previously served as president in 2003-2004. Since 2011, he has been the club secretary. In addition to his Rotary duties and work at The Bank of Walterboro, Huggins is known for his commitment to community service. “Lawton is certainly qualified to lead our club forward … his many endeavors are too numerous for me to keep track of,” said Rotarian Bill Steadman.
One of Huggins’ goals for the club this year is to increase membership. “We meet each Tuesday at noon at Veteran’s Victory House,” he said. “I have challenged each member to recruit a new member this year. Our club is involved with the CART fund which provides funds for Alzheimer’s research, Water Missions International to help provide healthy drinking water world-wide, scholarships at USC Salkehatchie, and the Angel Tree Program during the holidays.” More information contact Huggins at 843-782-5503.
