Lady Cougars host opening round of Region 8-AAAA playoffs

The Colleton County High School Lady Cougar Soccer team was set to begin competition Monday, April 30 at 6 p.m. at Cougar Stadium in round one of the SCHSL Lower-State Playoffs against North Myrtle Beach High School (No. 3). The Lady Cougars finished the regular season 11-3 and 7-3 in Region 8-AAAA and entered Monday’s game as the No. 2 seed.
Coach Danny Wiggins has led his team to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. “It only matters how we show up tonight,” said Coach Wiggins in advance of Monday’s home playoff game.
In the final week of the regular season, the Lady Cougars shut-out Edisto High School twice.
In the away game held Wednesday, April 25 versus Edisto, the Lady Cougars won 7-0. Heather Dowd scored three goals, Faith Allen scored twice and had an assist. Stephanie Hooker scored once and recorded an assist and freshman, Anne Mathis Thomas scored once.
Rachel Dandridge had three saves and Kate Downey had two saves.
“Every player contributed and played in the match,” said Wiggins.
In Friday’s 6-0 win on Senior Night, Faith Allen scored three goals. Stephanie Hooker, Amiyah Robinson and Dorothy Dessoye each scored for the Lady Cougars. Robinson, Ashlyn Harley, Macie Stone and Karis Thomas were each credited with an assist.
