The Colleton Prep varsity boys’ basketball team (0-13, 0-7) continues to look for its first win of the season following an 0-3 week against some of the top teams in SCISA IV-AA. The War Hawks fell to Bethesda Academy (79-30), Hilton Head Prep (86-24) and John Paul II (53-26).
Against Bethesda Tuesday Jan. 16, the War Hawks trailed 47-19 at the half. Jason Dennis was the leading scorer for CPA with 13 points. Brandon Polk added 10.
“Bethesda controlled the temp with their full press and fast break offense,” said Coach Charlie Brown. “We played them evenly in the second half.”
At home Friday evening, the Hawks trailed 60-15 at the half, then scored just nine points in the second half. Dennis led on the boards for Colleton Prep with eight points.
In a weather-related make-up game versus John Paul II at home Saturday afternoon, the War Hawks struggled offensively in the first period allowing the Golden Warriors to score 12 unanswered points in the first period. They trailed 22-11 at the half. Brandon Polk scored nine points for Colleton Prep.
“It was a tough week for us with the flu bug hitting us and losing one of our guards,” said Brown. “The biggest thing I saw this week was there was no quit in us. We battled with two of the best teams in the state and played our best defensive game on Saturday. We have nine games left and our best basketball is still to come.”
