The Colleton Prep Lady Hawks split Region IV-AA games last week to move to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Against Hilton Head Prep on Friday Jan.19, the Lady Hawks earned their second region win 35-31 over the Dolphins. Langley Harter led Colleton Prep, scoring 21 points and recording five steals. Emily Martin had 10 rebounds in the contest.
“Taylor Tomedolskey came off the bench to provide us with a great spark,” said Coach Charlie Brown. “She came in and hit a three-pointer and stole the ball four times in six processions against Hilton Head Prep.”
At home on Saturday, the Lady Hawks faced John Paul II in a weather-related make-up game. Harter recorded 16 points for CPA and Anne Garrett Carter had 12 points.
“It was a back-and-forth game with John Paul,” said Brown. “We had two missed opportunities — one to win with a three-pointer and a layup at the buzzer. We have lost four of our five losses in the final 30 seconds of the game or on the last possession. It is always hard to come up on the short end of the stick in these types of games. However, it is making us stronger and preparing us for the future. I see getting more physical as we play more games. Our goal right now is to qualify for the playoffs and see if we can make some noise.”
The Lady Hawks were scheduled to travel to non-region opponent Orangeburg Prep on Monday Jan. 22, then host region opponent Beaufort Academy on Tuesday Jan. 23 and travel to John Paul II on Friday Jan. 26.
