A Walterboro man was arrested on a charge of attempted murder following a stabbing in the Cottageville area.
A female caller to the emergency dispatch office reported that the stabbing occurred outside a residence in the 24000 block of Augusta Highway on Dec. 17 at 9:38 p.m., and she was driving the victim to Colleton Medical Center in a private vehicle.
A sheriff’s deputy spotted the pickup truck with the four-way flashers on and got the driver to pull over on Sidneys Highway. An ambulance arrived and transported the stabbing victim to the Emergency Department of Colleton Medical Center for treatment of a chest wound.
After being stabilized, the man was flown by helicopter to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
The female said she was not outside when the stabbing took place, and the suspect was not someone she had met before. But based on other information, deputies developed a suspect in the stabbing.
As deputies were on their way to the Augusta Highway home where the incident occurred, they spotted the man they suspected walking down Augusta Highway and took him into custody.
The investigation led deputies to charge Timothy W. Thornton, 21, of Knights Avenue in Walterboro on a charge of attempted murder.
