Members of Masonic Round Lodge #270 in Cottageville presented a framed portrait of President George Washington to Cottageville Elementary School on Nov. 2. The presentation, attended by fourth- and fifth-graders, was in the cafeteria, where the portrait will be displayed along with the American flag, Principal Janis Headden said.
The portrait was purchased by the local lodge from the Grand Lodge of South Carolina. Proceeds from the purchased portraits are donated to juvenile diabetes research, Brother Ted Underwood said.
Students, including fourth-grader Jesse Perdue, paid close attention during the ceremony. Assistant Principal Tasheena Allen listened as Master of the Lodge Jeremiah Wiggins addressed the students.
