The Lady Cougars have had a busy two-weeks and now sit at 8-9 overall and 4-4 in Region 8-AAAA.
In a tri-match against Wade Hampton and Hardeeville-Ridgeland played Sept. 27, Colleton County lost to Wade Hampton in three sets 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21 and defeated the Jaguars in two sets 25-4 and 25-15.
Against Berkeley on Sept. 28 on the road, the Lady Cougars dropped a region match in three sets 25-16 (L), 25-22 (W) and 25-19 (L).
“Obviously, the season hasn’t gone exactly as planned for us,” said Assistant Coach Katelyn Willis. “We still celebrate after a good game or win, because we want the girls to know we are still in it and we’re still proud of them. We are learning and adjusting every week. Against Berkeley, they fought back from being down by 10 in the first set and down by eight in the last. We came up short, but the teamwork and effort was definitely there.
“Dakari Gant led the team with kills and Ashlyn Harley had the longest serving streak of the night,” said Willis. “It was a costly loss as far as the region is concerned, but now we are focusing on finishing strong every game.”
Colleton County traveled to Lake Marion Wednesday Oct. 4 where they won in four sets 25-11 (W), 25-17 (L), 25-9 (W) and 25-20 (W). The following day the Lady Cougars picked up a region win versus Stall in three sets 25-10, 25-11 and 25-9.
“These were pretty good wins to get our heads back on straight and refocused as we head into the last week of the regular season,” said Willis. “We go to Battery Creek this week, which should be a pretty good match up, and then host Hilton Head Thursday Oct. 12 for a big region game and Senior Night. We are super excited for this game and hope we have a full gym to help cheer us back to the playoffs this season.”
Game time is set for 6 p.m. Thursday with the seniors being honored pregame.
The junior varsity earned wins over Stall, Battery Creek, Berkeley and Lake Marion.
