Elizabeth Laney of Facebook’s Walterboro, S.C. History Notes, will present a program on the basics of genealogy and family research at the Colleton Museum on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m.
Learn how to get your genealogical research jump-started with this Genealogy 101 presentation. “We’ll explore the first steps to becoming a family history detective, what online resources are available, the basics of documenting your findings and how to share it all with your family,” Laney said.
In addition to covering the basics of family history research, the presentation will also focus on local resources that can help reconstruct a family’s past, as well as resources specifically for families of Colleton County and the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Participants will receive informative handouts that cover the topics presented in the lecture and will learn about the Colleton Museum and Farmers Market’s new Ancestry.com access that can help museum patrons connect with their family’s past.
Admission is $7 for the general public and $5 for museum members.
