Colleton Prep traveled to Florence last Friday evening for a non-region game against King’s Academy (2-3), where they lost 40-18. The War Hawks are now 1-3 on the season and will travel to Region I-AA opponent Saint Andrew’s School (5-0) for a non-region game on Friday.
Colleton Prep scored in the first, third and fourth quarters, but was unsuccessful on conversion attempts.
Joe Bryan, filling in for Fisher Jackson at quarterback due to an injury, had 160 yards rushing with one touchdown and completed 1-of-8 passes, connecting with Josh Padgett for a TD.
Josh Crosby scored for the War Hawks on the ground.
For King’s Academy, Jackson Moya-Mendez threw for 161 yards and a touchdown. Carter Parrott had 89 yards receiving and scored three touchdowns for the Lions — one on an interception, one off a pass and on a punt return.
“I thought we played hard in the second half after a terrible start,” said Coach Rob Gorrell. “We had some young guys that played well when they were thrown into some tough situations.
“Gabe Barnes played well at weak safety in his first-ever start,” he said. “We had too many turnovers and special team mistakes. Overall, our defense played well.
“We have a long way to go, but we definitely did not quit,” said Gorrell. “We played hard until the last play. Love our guys and we will get back to work for a tough Saint Andrews’ game next Friday.”
