She was born August 26, 1920, in Charleston to the late Mike and Mamie Altine. She was predeceased by her late husband of 48 years, the former Sheriff of Colleton County, John I. Seigler. Her late husband was elected Sheriff in 1956 and served in that office until 1980. Mrs. Seigler went to work for the Sheriff’s Office in 1957 and retired in 1980. After her husband passed in 1988, she and her daughter, Andrea, moved to Sanford, Florida and resided at 12 Oaks Resort. She and Andrea (Andy) lived actively and happily there until Andy passed away in 2013. Mary Alice Maintained her limited life there until 2014 when she succumbed to incidents which left her disabled until her passing.
She is survived by her son, John I. Seigler, Jr., of Walterboro; her granddaughter, Kerri J. Hetzler of Charleston, the mother of three great grands, Sara Ann, Sadie and Summer; her grandson, John I. Seigler, III, and his wife Kathy, parents of great-grands, Daisy and Dempsey, all of Bowling Green, Kentucky. She is also survived by her only living sibling of 9, George Altine of Sessessionville on James Island.
The Altine family of Charleston will hold a memorial soon after a private service. She was the matriarch of the family and loved her family immensely. She will be missed, but never forgotten by all who knew and loved her. She lived a long life here and now she is home where she will live forever.
