Ellis Ann Frank of Walterboro received her white coat at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in Columbia on Wednesday Aug. 23. Frank, along with 109 first-year pharmacy students, participated in the ceremony for the USC College of Pharmacy Class of 2021.
Frank is a 2014 graduate of Colleton Preparatory Academy. She attended the University of South Carolina Pre-Pharmacy program and was accepted into the PharmD program at USC to begin in the fall of 2017.
After spending three summers working at Hiott’s Pharmacy in Walterboro, Frank knew she wanted to pursue a career in pharmacy. “When I first started working at Hiott’s Pharmacy, I had no idea the impact this small independent pharmacy and the customers would make on my life,” said Frank. “I quickly fell in love with my work and I knew then this was the career that was meant for me. Becoming a pharmacist is a great way for me to accomplish exactly what I want to do — help people.
“By working in an independent pharmacy, I am able to enjoy the personal relationships that develop between the pharmacist and the customers,” she said. “The customers and the pharmacist truly have a friendship of sorts. I love to see the respect they have for each other.
“I am so thankful to Hiott’s Pharmacy for the opportunity to learn and work there,” said Frank. “I am also thankful to all of the people involved in my life that have helped me to get here.
“Between my teachers, coaches, friends and family, I have been able to make my dream a reality. I have discovered that no matter the circumstances, traits such as compassion for others, the desire to help, determination and lots of hard work are all the components to becoming a respected, professional and productive person.”
Ellis Ann is the daughter of Tandy and Roy Metzendorf and Jimmy and Wendy Frank of Walterboro. She is the granddaughter of Ellison and Marie Young and Ernest and Miriam Frank.
