“A Taste of Bedon” will be held Saturday Aug. 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Hwy.
The evening will feature food prepared by Bedon members from the “A Taste of Bedon Cookbook.” A silent auction will be held for a Clemson National Championship football signed by Head Coach Dabo Swinney; an overnight stay at The Inn at Middleton, two admission tickets to Middleton Gardens and a book entitled “Middleton Place — A Phoenix Still Rising;” and a 49×70-inch handmade rag quilt, made by Marjorie Nettles. Cookbooks, which have been so popular that they are in their second printing, will also be available for $15 each.
All proceeds will benefit the new Bedon Family Life Center, which was completed in June. The center is not just for Bedon members, said church member Debbie Gorrell. It was built as a way to reach out to the community, and is available for rent to the public for anything from weddings to Bible studies.
In September, a series of Wednesday night meals will begin and continue through May. The center will also be the site of a men’s rally in October and a craft fair on Oct. 21.
Members are also planning a prayer garden, which will include memorial inscribed bricks that are available starting at $50.
“We started talking about the center about 10 years ago,” Gorrell said. “The devil threw up a lot of roadblocks along the way, but it’s finally done. And we want to share it with the community.”
Tickets for the Taste of Bedon are available at Remax Southern Real Estate, 979 Robertson Blvd., and Kalee’s Hair Salon, 658 Bells Hwy., as well as from any church member or by calling 843-562-7636. The list of silent auction items and ticket purchase sites will be updated on the church’s Facebook page. Tickets are limited.
