Lady Cougar Volleyball takes 3rd in silver bracket | Sports | The Press and Standard

The Lady Cougar Volleyball team finished in third place in the Silver bracket in Saturday’s PRTC Invitational. Colleton County was the No. 3 seed in the four-team silver bracket that included Hilton Head Christian, Branchville High School and Cane Bay High School. The Lady Cougars were eliminated following a loss to Cane Bay.
Earlier in the day, Colleton County participated in pool play against Palmetto Christian, Phillip Simmons, Dorchester Academy and Beaufort County JV. As of press time, no scores were available for Colleton County from the PRTC Invitational.
The Lady Cougars kicked off the season earlier in the week with a home tri-match against Beaufort and Wade Hampton. The Lady Cougars defeated Wade Hampton in two straight sets. Leading the offense for Colleton County were Dakari Gant, Ashlyn Harley and Makenzie Hand. Leading servers were Laura Lucas, Faith Allen and Whitley Weathers.
Against Branchville, Colleton County fell in the first set, then won the second set before falling in the third in the best-of-three series. The defense was led by Amiyah Robinson. Makenzie Hand led the team in blocks on the first row.
Thursday Aug. 24, the Lady Cougars traveled to Cane Bay High School for a region tri-match that included Beaufort High School. In match one, Colleton County fell to the Eagles in two sets. Amiyah Robinson led the way with Dakari Gant and Faith Allen from the service line. Gant led in the offensive attack along with Ashlyn Harley.
In the region match against Cane Bay, the Lady Cougars bounced back after losing the first set to dominate the second and third. Leading the way for the offense were Gant and Harley, along with Makenzie Hand and Whitely Weathers. Laura Lucas and Faith Allen led the service line, while Robinson was the defensive specialist.
Colleton County is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-AAAA competition. They were scheduled to travel to Ashley Ridge Tuesday Aug. 29 for a tri-match that included Hanahan.
