Deputy Colleton County Coroner Richard Carter has released the names of the three people killed in yesterday afternoon’s shooting at 21785 Lowcountry Highway in Ruffin.

They are Vincent Miller, 13, and his parents Phillip Miller and Lori Miller. The preliminary cause of death on all three victims is listed as multiple gunshots. Autopsies are pending at the forensic unit at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The couple’s 9-year-old granddaughter was treated at the scene. She was then placed in an ambulance and rushed to Colleton Medical Center, where a helicopter was on standby to fly her to the Pediatric Trauma Center at Medical University of South Carolina.

As of this morning, Lt. Tyger Benton, Colleton County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, said it is still early in the investigation and that no motive has been identified. “We are working on a few leads,” he added.

For more details on the story, see this week’s edition of The Press and Standard, which will be at newsstands tonight.

What happen to the Front Porch of the South? The Lowcountry has turned into a place where current residents don’t want to live, and former residents don’t feel safe to visit.

The last home invasion back in October , on the 28th to be exact , has still not been solved . “working on a few leads” is code for “we act like we care but don’t” , & “we act like we have leads but we have nothing”

Such a terrible tragedy, my thoughts and prayers for the family, friends, and community. We have a strong law enforcement team I have every confidence their diligence will solve this unthinkable crime.

Good grief. I am astounded at peoples’ whining, complaining, lack of responsibility, and abscence of respect for authority these days. Law enforcement workers have one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet and certainly aren’t appreciated enough. I will be praying for this surviving child and her family.

A terrible tragedy. I find Psalm 37:29 and Revelation 21:3,4 very comforting. And we can look forward to that poor family returning in the resurrection to a happy life free from crime, sickness, sadness, and evildoers, to a cleansed earth, under God’s Kingdom, very soon now. My sincere condolences to the little girls and to their family.

And thanks, too, to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Department and to SLED and the State troopers for all of their hard work in solving this crime, and for all of their hard work in our behalf in general.

Is this a Black man coming into the home of White people and killing them in cold blood? No one ever seems to say what happened if they feel like it is going to offend anyone. Just say it the way you say a white cop killed a black man.
