VERA DELL CRAVEN HARRISON
Care of The Brice Herndon, Funeral Chapels and Crematory
WALTERBORO – Mrs. Vera Dell Craven Harrison, 91, of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, April 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her home while under the care of Amedysis Hospice. Mrs. Harrison was twice married, first to the late Mr. Joe Craven and secondly to the late Mr. Hollen Sam Harrison.
Funeral services were conducted 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, April 4, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Bruce Fox and The Reverend Steve Crosby officiating. Interment followed in Bethel Baptist Churchyard, 3481 Sidneys Road, Walterboro.
Born February 19, 1926, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Neta Craven. She was a devoted housewife, who loved her family dearly. It was at her home, where she instilled the true love of a mother into her children and grandchildren. There she also spent countless hours as a seamstress, fashioning with her wonderful talent many Easter outfits, prom dresses, and the occasional wedding dress. She loved spending time in her yards and garden as well as watching the birds from her porch. She will also be remembered as a great Sothern cook. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she enjoyed working behind the scenes, preparing for church events and being active in many aspects of the church’s work. She was also formerly involved with the PEP Club and Senior’s group.
Surviving are: her five children, Vera Joan Williams and her husband Jerry of Orangeburg, Jill Hartzog and her husband Glenn of Aiken, Vicky Herndon of Walterboro, Idell Fox and her husband Bruce of Ruffin, and Joseph Craven and his wife Charli of Arnold, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, Jerry Williams, Jr., Debbie Williams Meek, Troy Williams, Catherine Vera Hartzog, Glenn Hartzog, II, Emily Hartzog, Katie Herndon, Michael Herndon, Jr., Samantha Herndon Hiott, Jonathan Herndon, Amy Fox Seigler, Eric Fox, Andrew Joseph Craven, Maysun Craven, and Alyx Trigg; fourteen great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Wendell Smoak; and a sister-in-law, Doris Hillier and her husband Rocky; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Herndon; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Craven; and siblings, Leroy Craven, Dorothy Craven Choynacki, Hazel Bazzle, Vernelle Smoak, Dosha Dittmer, and Vonlehe Craven.
