Arclabs Charleston held its first High School Welding Competition Friday March 17. The grand prize — a $15,300 full tuition scholarship — was awarded to Aaron Craven, right, of Thunderbolt Career and Technology Center, whose welding instructor is Arthur Russell. First runner-up with a $7,650 half-tuition scholarship was Andres Marin-Morales, center, also from Thunderbolt Career and Technology Center and instructed by Russell. Second runner-up $3,825 quarter-tuition scholarship winner was Tyler Neely from Goose Creek High School, welding instructor Timothy Burgsteiner. Each participant was awarded a $500 scholarship.
