The Colleton Prep Academy Middle School Softball team and the Colleton County Middle School Softball team faced each other Thursday April 6 at the ACE Basin Sports Complex. The Lady Hawks came out on top, 18-8, in four innings.
The young Lady Hawks tore up the base paths in the game, with seven players recording at least two stolen bases — including seven by fifth-grader Makenzie Pellum.
Sixth grader Becca Martin earned the win in the run-rule shortened game. She recorded five strikeouts and issued four walks in the contest. Martin helped her effort in the circle, going 2-for-3 at the plate with 3-RBI’s and scoring three times. Rianna Bailey provided one inning of relief in the fourth, allowing one earned run on a single hit.
Fifth graders Pellum and Hannah Strickland had three hits each in the win over CCMS. Pellum was 3-for-3 and scored four times, while Strickland went 3-for-4 with 2-RBI’s and scored twice. Jordan Slocum, Bailee Stanley and Sydney Bailey all had two hits. Stanley and Emily Wilson both scored three times.
“We played fairly solid defensively with Sydney Bailey turning a nice double play from her second-base position,” said Coach Tiger Martin.
“It is great to see the young girls take center stage and come through with a win.”
