Colleton County’s varsity baseball team was shutout 6-0 by Hilton Head Tuesday April 4 on the road to fall to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in region play. The loss cost the Cougars – moving them into the No. 2 spot in Region 8-AAAA behind Hilton Head (7-2). Beaufort moved to the No. 3 spot at 6-3. For the Cougars to retake the top spot, they will need to win the remainder of their region games and Beaufort will need to defeat Hilton Head.
Field conditions moved Colleton County’s game against the Berkeley Stags, originally scheduled for last Thursday, to Saturday April 22 at 3 p.m.
Hilton Head out-hit Colleton County (5-3) in last Tuesday’s 6-0 loss against the Seahawks. The Cougars’ three hits came from Trey Nettles, Reese Penfield and Josh Kinard.
Lake Boseman took the loss for Colleton County in four and one-third innings of work. Boseman allowed three earned runs on four hits, issuing five walks and striking out six. Tyler Bell threw one and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing one earned run and one hit.
“We came out flat, offensively and defensively,” said Coach Jermale Paige. “Plain and simple – we just weren’t ready to play.”
The Cougars were scheduled to travel to Bluffton during spring break for a Monday April 10 game and will resume region play Tuesday April 18 (Senior Night) against Stall.
