Billie Ruth Bass Doyle, 82, widow of Rev. W.T. Doyle, Sr., entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 30, 2017.
Funeral Services was held 3:00 PM Sunday at the Old St. George Baptist Church with Pastor Godfrey Ritter, Pastor Ronnie Atkinson and Reverend Ned Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Karey McAlhany, Lee Grooms, Mark Heffner, Jamie Watts, Tom Doyle, Jr. and Lynwood Shieder. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until time of the service.
Billie was born on January 24. 1935, in Slocumb Alabama, a daughter of the late Rufus Strickland who died before her birth and Flora Mae Bass who died eleven days after she was born, and was raised by her grandparents, Irvin and Olevia Bass and her aunt and uncle, Clyde and Mozella Bass. She attended Croy State College in Flora, Alabama, after college Harold and Annie Smith of Beaufort were her second parents and she became a part of their family and was a former bookkeeper with the Beaufort Water Department. She was a member of the North Walterboro Baptist Church and Walterboro Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. She was very active in her husband’s ministry.
Surviving is her son, Thomas “Wally” Doyle, III and his wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Ainsley and Avery Doyle, all of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Joyce (Buddy) Witherspoon, Columbia, Betty (Rev. Ronnie) Atkinson and a brother, Jimmy Smith, all of Beaufort.
