Applications are being accepted for the Alneatha Salley Hamilton Memorial Scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Hamilton was an award-winning veteran educator who spent 48 years teaching in the public schools of Colleton and Jasper counties.

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are in good academic standing; involved in community-oriented service; and have plans to major in education. A brief essay is also required.

Since its inception, more than $5,000 in scholarships have been awarded to recipients, including Tia Amlett, who teaches in Atlanta, Ga., and Wayne Darien, who teaches in Holly Hill.

Applications are due on April 15, and winners will be announced in May.
