Colleton County’s varsity softball team improved its record to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in region 8-AAAA following wins over Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Stall last week. The Lady Cougars lost 6-2 to region foe Berkeley.
The Lady Cougars defeated Bamberg-Ehrhardt 12-2 on Monday March 20 at home. Colleton County had 13 hits in the game. Lauren Dewitt earned the win in four innings of work, allowing two earned runs on four hits, surrendering one walk and striking out six. Whitney Weathers pitched two innings, allowing no runs on a single hit, while striking out two.
Victoria Brewington was 3-for-3 on the day with a triple and 3-RBI’s. She scored twice in the game. MaKayla Hunt was 2-for-4 at the plate, with a triple and 3-RBI’s and Weathers was 2-for-3. Others providing hits in the game were Jamoni Sanders, DeWitt, Hallie Robertson, Brittney Risher and Jessica McDowell.
In the 6-2 loss against Berkeley, Colleton County fell behind early. Weathers recorded the loss for the Lady Cougars, pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits. DeWitt entered the circle in relief and provided one inning of scoreless work, issuing a single walk.
Offensively, the Lady Cougars had four hits in the game provided by Brewington, DeWitt, Hunt and Risher.
“We had four hits and they had seven in the game,” said Coach Rusty Adams. “We left too many on the bases.”
Against Stall, Colleton County Lauren DeWitt earned the 16-0 shutout win in a one-hitter through four innings of work. DeWitt recorded eight strikeouts in the game. Multiple hits were recorded through the lineup for Colleton County. Jamoni Sanders had two hits in the game, while McDowell and H. Robertson both recorded 2-RBI’s.
The Lady Cougars enter the bottom half of their schedule this week, tied for second place in Region 8-AAAA. They were scheduled to host Cane Bay Tuesday March 28 and travel to Beaufort Friday March 31. Earlier in the season, the Lady Cougars lost 7-0 to Cane Bay and defeated Beaufort 2-1.
