Colleton Prep’s JV softball team improved its record to 12-2-1 following recent wins over John Paul II and Dorchester Academy. The JV Lady Hawks tied the perennially tough Laurence Manning JV squad when time expired last week prior to the start of the varsity game.
Against John Paul II Tuesday March 14, the JV team defeated the Golden Warriors 18-4 in an away game. Four pitchers combined for the win for CPA: Rachel Wright, Haley Bootle, Becca Martin and Rianna Bailey. Taylor Tomedolskey had five hits in the game and Wright scored four times.
In the 15-1 defeat of Dorchester Academy at home on Monday March 20, CPA scored 10 runs in the first inning as the first six batters connected for hits. Jessica Hughes had a double and reached based in all three at bats, while Bootle scored three times in the contest. Wright earned the win in the circle for the JV Lady Hawks.
The JV game against Laurence Manning ended in a 7-7 tie as time expired for the start of the varsity game. Haley Bootle went the distance in the shortened game. Tomedolskey and Ella Nolte had two hits, while Becca Martin and Jessica Hughes reached base twice.
“Our defense had a few miscues that came back to bite us,” said Coach Tiger Martin. “Nolte also turned in a fine backhanded stab at second base to thwart a LMA rally. This is the kind of competition we would like to play every game. We are looking forward to the rematch on March 30.”
In middle school action, Colleton Prep defeated Robert E. Lee 18-7 on Thursday March 16 (away).
Becca Martin and Rianna Bailey split time on the mound. EK Bell and Jordan Slocum had two hits each in the contest. Linley Jones, Mackenzie Pellum and Sidney Bailey reached base three times, while Bailee Stanley crossed home plate three times.
The Colleton Prep Middle School team was back in action on March 27 against Laurence Manning (away).
