The Colleton Prep varsity basketball team claimed its first win of the season in a 59-57 decision over Beaufort Academy last Wednesday evening. Originally scheduled to played Tuesday evening, the game was moved to Wednesday at the request of Beaufort Academy, who was unable to field a team Tuesday due to illness.
Nick Padgett led the way, scoring 12 points and collecting 7 rebounds. Josh Carter, Warren James and Brandon Polk each contributed 10 points in the game. “It was a great team win,” said Coach Rob Gorrell.
Against Hilton Head Prep Friday evening, the War Hawks celebrated their seniors prior to a 69-13 loss. “The boys lost a tough one to Hilton Head Prep coming off their first win,” said Gorrell. “Their half-court-trap gave us problems and again, we struggled with turnovers. I’m very pleased with how well we play defensively when we are able to get set in the half court. The guys are extremely excited about the chance to beat Thomas Heyward this week and know they have another winnable one on Tuesday at St. Andrews. I’m excited to see them finish the season strong.”
Following last week’s games, the War Hawks are 1-17 overall and 1-11 in Region 4-AA competition with two games remaining.
