The Colleton Prep Lady Hawks have rallied in the second half of their region schedule and they are hoping to grab the No. 4 seed in the 2017 SCISA AA State Tournament, scheduled to be Feb. 17-25.
Against Beaufort Academy Wednesday Feb. 8, the Lady Hawks earned a 48-44 win over the Eagles, avenging an earlier loss in the season. They were led by Langley Harter with 22 points and 4 rebounds. Harter was 9-15 from the free throw line. Anne Garrett Carter had 14 points with 6 rebounds. Penelope Tuten grabbed 10 rebounds, while Meredith Ware had 12 rebounds in the game.
On Senior Night against Hilton Head Prep, the Lady Hawks won a 53-49 overtime thriller after the Dolphins hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into free basketball.
“It was a loud, excited and packed gym on Senior Night,” said Coach Rob Gorrell. “It was a great atmosphere. Hilton Head Prep made a Hail Mary 3-pointer, and we missed a wide open lay-up, coming back down the court to win in regulation at the buzzer. The girls could’ve gotten discouraged, but we responded by playing our best four minutes of the night and dominated the extra period. I am so proud of our girls and how hard they are playing. It’s been special. They’re excited for our last two games and the playoffs this coming week.”
Penelope Tuten led the way on Senior Night, scoring 16 points with 17 rebounds. Harter added 14 of her own with 10 rebounds, while Meredith Ware added 12 points and 20 rebounds. Anne Garrett Carter had 8 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
Following last week’s wins, the Lady Hawks improved their record to 5-11 overall and 4-6 in Region 4-AA competition. They are scheduled to play Thomas Heyward and St. Andrew’s (both away) this week before heading into the region tournament.
