After three weeks of Christmas break, the War Hawks headed back to the court this past week looking for their first win of the season. Seeing no action since Dec. 9, the Hawks dove straight into region competition on Jan. 3 against John Paul Academy. Colleton Prep struggled against a strong John Paul II team and was soundly defeated, 66-31. The Golden Warriors scored 40 points in the second half. Nick Padgett and Jason Walling both scored 8 points in the game, followed by Josh Carter with 6 points and Warren James, 5 points.
“We just weren’t ready to play — it is as simple as that,” said Coach Barry Morehead. “Josh Carter got into foul trouble early and before I could get him out, he had his fourth and had to sit a long time.”
Things did not improve for Colleton Prep later in the week, as they lost twice more. Against Bethesda on Friday Jan. 6 (away), the War Hawks fell 69-24. Josh Carter recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
After leading most of the first half against non-region opponent Patrick Henry, CPA saw its lead slip away in an eventual 37-27 loss. Warren James scored 12 points to lead the War Hawks, while Josh Carter had 6 points and collected 15 rebounds. Additional scoring included: Brandon Polk 2, Nick Padgett 2.
CPA is now 0-6 overall and 0-2 in region play. They hosted Hilton Head Christian on Tuesday Jan. 10, and will travel to Beaufort Academy on Friday Jan. 13.
